Almost 25 years ago we were able to make the first successful trials with mineral supply for elephants.

Since then numerous practical experience has been gained in zoological gardens in conjunction with scientific and research organisations which have resulted to the development of a special mineral feed for elephants.

So it was no surprise when a young elephant was named SALVANA in Hagenbeck Zoo in 1997 by the former governing major, Dr Henning Voscherau. First European Elephant Management School

Elephant experts from around the world participate in the annual one week "First European Elephant Management School" in Hamburg which is organised and carried out by Hagenbeck Zoo. SALAVANA has taken over the specialist lecture on the subject of elephant nutrition. Thus the future of the exchange of specialist information in the field of elephant nutrition has been guaranteed.

The main focus of additive supplies for zoo and wild animals is in the area of vitamins and bulk and trace elements. Decades of research and development in the area of motherless rearing of pets and farm animals have however, led to the development of milk replacers for zoo animals as a replacement for mother's milk which is just as effective. 2000 - Elephant "Kiri" at Zoo Berlin

The specially developed SALVANA Milk for Baby Elephants was successful in the motherless rearing of "Kiri" in BERLIN ZOO in April 2000 in its first practical use. Since then the milk formula has been used in many zoological gardens domestically and abroad, from Ireland and the United Kingdom to Sweden and Hungary. There have already been enquiries from the USA and Japan.
Successful motherless rearing of other zoo animals such as rhinos and camels has been possible using SALVANA milk replacers.

On the basis of practical ration calculations numerous other species of animal have been provided with SALVANA Mineral Feed, such as antelopes, giraffes, rhinos, tapirs, camels, alpacas, carnivores and also ostriches.

Knowledge about nutrition for wild animals has been growing continually from year to year benefiting zoo and wild animals.
